Project Wildlife in the News:

Check out some of the news coverage that Project Wildlife has been receiving:
Jethro the Gopher Snake Joins PW

Congratulations go out to Kristen Cook of San Diego! Kristen entered our raffle at Earth Fair on April 19th. Her prize? The opportunity to name to our newest Animal Ambassador, a young male gopher snake. The name she gave was Jethro (actually Jethro Marsh, if you want his full name). Kristen is a life-long animal lover and is familiar with Project Wildlife because she has rescued animals in need before. She says it is great to be able to have wildlife resources, like Project Wildlife, available to the San Diego community.

Our Animal Ambassadors journey to schools, community meetings, large booth programs, and other events to help teach thousands of people every year about the beauty of our native wildlife here in San Diego and how each person can learn to live alongside our wild neighbors. Gopher snakes are an integral part of every portion of San Diego County, helping to control “pest” species such as mice, pocket gophers, and ground squirrels. However, they are sometimes killed by people because of their resemblance to rattlesnakes. Gopher snakes are nonvenomous and great to have around your yard and community. Jethro will help everyone he meets learn about these wonderful creatures.
Barn Owl Rescue
A nest of barn owls was brought to the Care Center on March 24, 2009 following an illegal tree-trimming.
Thanks to the efforts of Project Wildlife volunteers and the cooperation of Poway residents, a "reunion" nesting box was installed near the location where the baby owls were rescued, and we are thrilled to report that the adults have returned to care for their offspring. Watch the video on Channel 8 News.
Golden Eagle Rescue
A rare Golden Eagle that was rescued on the Viejas Indian Reservation is now being cared for by Project Wildlife. The story was run in the San Diego Union Tribune, as well as on news channels such as Channel 10 news.

Another Success Story!
