Jethro the Gopher Snake Joins PW
Congratulations go out to Kristen Cook
of San Diego! Kristen entered our raffle at Earth Fair on April
19th. Her prize? The opportunity to name to our newest Animal Ambassador,
a young male gopher snake. The name she gave was Jethro (actually
Jethro Marsh, if you want his full name). Kristen is a life-long
animal lover and is familiar with Project Wildlife because she
has rescued animals in need before. She says it is great to be
able to have wildlife resources, like Project Wildlife, available
to the San Diego community.
Our Animal Ambassadors journey to schools, community meetings,
large booth programs, and other events to help teach thousands
of people every year about the beauty of our native wildlife
here in San Diego and how each person can learn to live alongside
our wild neighbors. Gopher snakes are an integral part of every
portion of San Diego County, helping to control “pest” species
such as mice, pocket gophers, and ground squirrels. However,
they are sometimes killed by people because of their resemblance
to rattlesnakes. Gopher snakes are nonvenomous and great to have
around your yard and community. Jethro will help everyone he
meets learn about these wonderful creatures.

and the cooperation of Poway
