Meet the new Program Manager

Hello everyone!

My name is Leslie Van Epps and I have joined the staff of Project Wildlife to serve as the new Program Manager. For those of you who don't know me, I've been a volunteer with Project Wildlife since 1994. I originally worked at the Care Facility until I became interested in hummingbirds and subsequently joined that team. I have been a Co-Team Leader with hummingbirds since 1996. I've also been involved with the Project Wildlife Education Department for several years, and chaired the Education Committee for the last six months.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with some wonderful volunteers such as yourself. The Board of Directors has identified specific goals for the volunteer program. Some of these goals include:

  • Pursue ideas and methods to aid in the efficiency and growth of Project Wildlife
  • Develop materials to aid new volunteers in determining areas of interest
  • Guide volunteers into teams where they would best fit and find the most rewarding
  • Develop and implement methods to combat volunteer attrition

At a recently held meeting, Team Leaders were directed into small groups for discussion. Some of the questions pondered were: What motivates you as a volunteer? What has kept you interested/working with Project Wildlife? What can Project Wildlife do to help keep you motivated? What are the # 1 & 2 problems facing your team? The groups came up with some EXCELLENT answers and suggestions! What about you? I would welcome any input from team members/volunteers!!! Please feel free to email or call me with any suggestions.

I am really looking forward to working with all of the tremendous Project Wildlife volunteers. Without your time and effort we could not care for the 11,000 creatures we receive each year. Your dedication and enthusiasm to help give San Diego's wildlife a second chance is truly appreciated!!! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns; my job is to help you, the volunteer!!
