PW Bids Farewell to a Dear Friend

It is with deep regret that I must announce that Lyn Layce, Project Wildlife's Program Manager has been forced, due to illness, to retire from her long time service to our organization.

Since Lyn first came to this organization she has been a volunteer, an animal care giver, fund raiser, volunteer coordinator and champion of all things Project Wildlife.

She has been the driving force behind the tremendous growth that Project Wildlife has experienced and has devoted every day since joining Project Wildlife to promoting the fight for Project Wildlife's cause to give wildlife a second chance. Sadly, this pillar of our organization must now turn all her efforts toward a personal battle with bone cancer.

In typical Lyn Lacye style, after receiving this diagnosis, she was on the phone ordering T-shirts and helping to prepare for our Wildlife Day event from her hospital bed. I can only marvel, once again at the strength and courage of this beautiful caring woman, whom I am proud to call my friend and colleague.

No amount of space available would allow me to extol Lyn's many virtues or express the gratitude of this organization for her years of service and devotion. We can only send her our love and prayers for a successful recovery and be comforted by the knowledge that no disease has faced a more formidable opponent.

It is ironic that although Lyn has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for this and other organizations, she now faces these upcoming challenges with little of the resources needed to cope with the unexpected expenses that will be required. Nonprofit organizations are not known for having highly paid staff, and Project Wildlife is no exception. Lyn has for years provided her expertise for the love of this organization and not for its financial rewards.

Friends of Lyn and Martin have set up a fund to help them through this difficult time with all proceeds going directly to Lyn and her family. Those of you who wish to contribute a non-tax deductible donation can send your check to:

Lyn Lacye, Account #218-000-8006
C/o California Bank & Trust
8252 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard
San Diego, CA 92111
Attn: Lisa Pelayo

Please include the Account # on the back of the check.

To Lyn, we wish you a speedy recovery; we shall always aspire to your example and long for your return.
