Hundreds of San Diegans came out on Sunday, November 5th
to show their support for San Diego Wildlife Day. This annual event,
designed as a celebration of our precious native wildlife, was
especially meaningful to PW this year. We were finally able to show off
our new Wildlife Care Facility to you, the very people who made it all
possible.
Visitors were treated to more than just tours of the new facility.
They were able to meet some of the non-releasable birds and mammals that
serve as a critical part of PW's Education Department. These very important
critters help us to teach citizens throughout the county about loss of
habitat and other environmental issues. In addition, Rainmaker performed
an exciting mix of tropical-inspired music for the crowds. As an extra
treat, the San Diego Zoo provided their own entertainment with costumed
characters, to the delight of the children (and quite a few adults!).
Admission to this very special event was free of charge, but true to
form, Project Wildlife's dedicated members and volunteers came through
and raised over $5,200. My thanks go out to all of you who bought
T-shirts and goodies from the bake sale, or participated in the raffle.
Your donations will give countless wild birds and mammals a second
chance at life.
As for the dozens of volunteers who donated items for the raffle and
bake sale, and those who gave up their Sunday for the animals, words
cannot express my gratitude. Wildlife Day could never have taken place
without you. Thank you so very much.
